Team Rynkeby expands with new team in Germany

Team Rynkeby will establish a team in Germany after the summer holidays. The largest charity cycling team in Europe is thus represented in no fewer than seven countries when the trip goes to Paris next year.

Two years ago, when the German juice group Eckes-Granini acquired Rynkeby Foods A/S, it was not only acquiring the largest juice company in the Nordics – it also took over the main sponsorship of Europe’s largest charity cycling team, Team Rynkeby.

Team Rynkeby, which every year bikes to Paris to raise money for children with critical illness, has the participation this year of more than 1,900 amateur cyclists and 450 helpers across 48 local teams in six countries: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Faroe Islands and Iceland.

And the work of Team Rynkeby for seriously ill children has impressed the Executive Board of Eckes-Granini to such an extent that it has long been a wish to establish its own Team Rynkeby team in Nieder-Olm southwest of Frankfurt, where Eckes-Granini has its group headquarters.

“Team Rynkeby is a great initiative, therefore we support the roll-out of Team Rynkeby Germany. It will be the key social engagement initiative for the Eckes-Granini Group in the future, “ says Thomas Hinderer, CEO Eckes-Granini.

Team Rynkeby Foundation CEO Carl Erik Dalbøge explains: “Eckes-Granini has always been very enthusiastic about Team Rynkeby. And last year, the Eckes-Granini headquarters even had a rider on one of our Danish teams. And he returned to the Executive Board after the trip and spoke so enthusiastically about the project that they were then ready to discuss the possibilities of expanding to the south,” says Carl Erik Dalbøge.

Named after German family brand
The discussions have now resulted in Team Rynkeby setting up its first team in Germany after the summer holidays. The German team will thereby be ready for the trip to Paris in the summer of 2019.

It is Eckes-Granini’s well-known German family brand ‘hohes C’ which has formally entered into an agreement with Team Rynkeby Foundation to assume the cost of running Team Rynkeby in Germany.

This means that all the money that Team Rynkeby raises in Germany will go directly to the “Deutsche Kinderkrebsstiftung”, the local cooperation partner of Team Rynkeby Foundation in Germany. The Deutsche Kinderkrebsstiftung was founded in 1995 and is committed to improve the chances of healing, the treatment methods and the quality of life of cancer-sick children.

The hohes C sponsorship also means that Team Rynkeby will be called ‘Team Rynkeby – hohes C’ in Germany.

“We are very happy to make the first step in the roll-out of the project to Germany. We hope, of course, that we can steadily grow the project in Germany as interest increases – as has been the case in other countries,” says Carl Erik Dalbøge.

An experience for life
At Eckes-Granini, Torsten Fröhlich, Director Controlling, is looking forward to the prospect of a local Team Rynkeby team in Nieder-Olm.

It was he who participated on Team Rynkeby Ringe in 2017 and inspired the Executive Board of Eckes-Granini with his enthusiasm. Again this year he will cycle the 1,300 km from Rynkeby Foods’ headquarters in Ringe in Denmark to Paris with Team Rynkeby Ringe.

“Team Rynkeby is such a good and positive project in which many people across age, gender and social differences come together to do something good for themselves while doing something good for others. You get really close to your teammates when you sit on a bike for eight to ten hours a day – you get a unique experience for life together,” says Torsten Fröhlich.

Team Rynkeby will be cycling to Paris from 30 June to 7 July 2018. If you would like to be part of the team in 2019, submit your application here: www.team-rynkeby.com/apply.
